Best egpus of 20172/14/2023 For a little more, you can have a whole second system that takes up about the same amount of space. You're looking at paying $299-$499 for a case and power supply. It takes up less space than the Core and the Razer Blade 14 would. I stuck all my spare parts into a Cooler Master Elite 120 Advanced and just used that. I'm not using it at the moment as I had enough extra hardware lying around that I didn't need to. The Razer Core, PowerColor Devil Box, and AKiTio Thunder 3 are all very close to, or the same size as, the size of an ITX system. ![]() ![]() How will your laptop handle being closed while gaming?ĮGFX enclosures are NOT small. Do you want to do VR, and if so does your laptop (or laptop you want to buy) have enough USB 3.0 ports? If not, that limits your choices. Do you possess all the external components now? Monitor, keyboard, mouse, controller, speakers? Need more details on your setup or proposed setup: I know Apple does it this way in the 15" MBP, but I never bothered checking how others do it. If it is a Skylake-H CPU (basically the quadcores), it is possible to connect that Thunderbolt chip to 4 of the lanes coming directly from the CPU, which would solve the problem, but I don't know how common that is. If it is connected to the PCH - and if it is a laptop with a CPU from Intel's Skylake-U chips, that is the only way to do it - that x4 connection is effectively shared with everything else in the system (the connection between the CPU and the PCH, on package or not, is the same bandwidth as an x4 PCIe 3.0 connection). More troubling IMO is how that Thunderbolt controller is connected to the CPU. ![]() The more memory you have on the GPU, the less the PCIe bandwidth matters. Here is a reasonably recent piece:īasically, it has some effect on the margins but x4 PCIe 3.0 is still good. The impact of memory bandwidth on GPU performance has been tested many times.
